We have a series of workshops planned with Milton Keynes Creative Learning, part of Milton Keynes Theatre.
Our first workshop was Poetry, pitched at GCSE/KS4 level.
The workshop was led by Martha, ably assisted by Ian.
The session started with an icebreaker, jokey “appreciation of poetry” noise and a quick nonsense poetry game. It then moved onto reading a Spike Milligan poem and started to think about emotions in poetry. From emotions, it was onwards to themes and devices and a comparison of two poems. The session finished with a poetry performance.
Martha was lively, upbeat, throughout; encouraging while being respectful of individual needs and preferences. She kept the session moving and dynamic at all times. By the end, even those who were initially shy or reserved were speaking up. One participant that had previously not enjoyed poetry said it was “outstanding” – praise indeed!
We look forward to our next workshop with Creative Learning at Milton Keynes Theatre which is Scriptwriting on 24 February and can be booked here.
On 31 March, we will be doing a theatre/stage make-up workshop.
